Fighter's Biography

  • What do you do for fight preparation?

Generally a fight camp consists of 6 days a week of training. Roughly 4 hours a day split over two sessions, mornings and evenings. I work on my trademark striking all year round and have over the last year put countless hours into my ground game ensuring I am a complete, all round, dangerous fighter.

How did you get your fight name?

Well you see, those who know me outside of the Hexagon will know I’m generally a very controlled and calculated person. However once that Hexagon door slams, something inside me switches on and all the built up Rage culminates in that one moment. It only took a few fights and the label stuck. . .

When and why did you start martial arts training?

I started as a six year old boy with Karate, continued until I was a multiple SA champion with one world title under the belt. I moved on to Kickboxing and yet again sought to be the absolute best. Once I had won the world championships in my Matric year I took a bit of time off for studying, etc., before stumbling onto MMA. I liked what I saw and was hooked immediately. Fighting is in my bones. It’s what I do and I’m only just starting a new chapter of my journey.

  • How did you transition to MMA?

One Saturday I came across an amateur MMA tournament in Centurion, Pretoria, a few years back, featuring the likes of Boyd Allen, Franna Groenewald, Cedric Doyle and the Buirski brothers. It captivated me. The pureness of the fight. I was hooked. The following Monday I was in the gym and my journey began.

What ranks and titles have you held?

None so far. I managed to build up a nice reputation over my amateur career for being a knock out artist with KO’s coming via straight rights, left hooks, head kicks and body knees and would like to believe the title of ‘crowd pleasing entertainer’ is all I need.

Tell us about your most memorable fight.

It very difficult to pick one but I’ll narrow it to my last two. A 46 second destruction of the then MFC Middle Weight champ via KO and a 4 round title fight war with Keron Skinner. I lost round one then took two and three. Finally my gas gave way towards the end of round four. I ended up in a horrible position against the fence and lost via TKO. But I will never forget that back and forth battle as long as I live.

    What is your favourite technique?

That’s an easy one. Anything I can do to leave my opponent unconscious on the canvas really gets me fired up. Whether it be a punch, knee, elbow or kick I couldn’t care less but the KO is my favourite technique by a long stretch.

What other interesting information can you tell us about yourself?

I’m a father of 4 to a loving and absolutely supportive wife. I live MMA and sometimes feel like a walking encyclopaedia of MMA knowledge. I’ve been involved in regulating and officiating MMA in SA for the last three years. My passion for the sport knows no limits.
