Groenewald Punches In

Kabeya withdraws from bout, Groenwald steps in to face Hanekom

10 December 2015

GROENEWALD PUNCHES IN

Johannesburg, South Africa –South Africa's Chad 'Superman' Hanekom was scheduled to face DRC's Jean-Marie Kabeya in both of their EFC debuts, a highly anticipated fight that would see two new additions to the incredibly competitive light heavyweight division ruled by the champion Norman Wessels. However, early this morning news broke from Kabeya's camp, CIT in Pretoria, that he had contracted a Staph infection and has to withdraw from the bout. Enter Ruben 'The Hammer' Groenewald, a multiple time boxing champion.

Groenewald signed discreetly with EFC in November with the plan to debut early in 2016. An accomplished heavyweight professional boxer, Groenewald brings a vast amount of elite athletic experience with his record of 23-10-3, ten of his victories by way of knockout. He promises heavy hands and a technical boxing prowess, the likes of which have not been seen in the light heavyweight division yet. Training out of Junkard MMA, alongside Commonwealth wrestler and EFC featherweight Pierre Botha, amongst a host of other EFC athletes, he is bound to surprise fans and opponents with his developed ground skills.

The two are set to meet at an agreed upon catchweight of 96kgs, due to the late notice fight for Groenewald.

Upon accepting his new opponent Hanekom stated, "Kabeya is a pussy. Thank you Graeme for finding me a fight and I will still make weight, because I am a champion."
