Johannesburg, South Africa - Every career has its ups and downs. It is about how an athlete learns from the losses and comes back stronger. That is what will define his legacy after he has finished competing and how he will be remembered in the hearts of fans. The former EFC heavyweight champion Ruan ‘Fangzz’ Potts returns to the Hexagon next Saturday at EFC 40 after suffering his first ever losing streak and is aiming to rebuild to his former glory.

In an interview yesterday, Potts described how he is not taking Asker lightly and solely focusing on next week’s bout. “I am happy to be back in the organisation and am not looking further than my first fight,” he said. Potts added, “I will take every fight as it comes and have always believed that you must always take one fight at a time and put your full focus on that fight. There is no such thing as an easy fight and one can never underestimate an opponent.”

Potts is ever the South African patriot and is ecstatic to be competing in front of his fans again, “It is great being back in my home country and representing South Africa in EFC. I love competing in front of my home crowd and fans and am looking forward to my first bout back.”

When asked about his upcoming opponent, Frenchman Cyril Asker, he responded, “What I have seen of Cyril’s previous fights is that he is a well-rounded MMA athlete and I think he is a good opponent for me.” He further added his prediction on the outcome of the fight. “I see the fight going as I focus the fight going, namely with my hand raised at the end of the night.”

With his recent ventures of competing in UFC, Potts has gained valuable experiences to learn from but has not changed his attitude, “I am the same dedicated fighter I have always been and will do as I have always done, be the best I can be on the night,” Potts stated. I added, “I am always evolving as an MMA athlete and am always looking to better myself in every aspect of the game!”

Potts ended the interview with a message for his fans, “The champ is back and on track to reclaim what is rightfully his!”
