SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF DRUG-FREE SPORT INITIATES OUT OF COMPETITION TESTING POLICY

Johannesburg, South Africa – Since the inception of the organisation, EFC has spearheaded the growth, development and safety of MMA throughout Africa. On 29 April 2015 it was announced that EFC officially falls under The South Africa Institute for Drug-Free Sport. The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport’s core focus is to tackle doping in sport in order to ensure a culture of ethics and fair play within South Africa. Although the organisation was guided by WADA, EFC now officially follows the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) code which is considered to be the strictest anti-doping code in world.

As of today South African Institute of Drug-Free Sport will extend their testing policies to include out-of-competition testing for all EFC athletes. This includes random unscheduled testing at athletes' gyms, places of work and places of residence. This is in addition to the policies already in place that require in competition testing.

"Athlete's safety is always our number one priority, and this is another fantastic step towards creating an ethical and safer competitive environment for our athletes to partake in." – EFC president Cairo Howarth. He added, "This new policy helps to set an ethical standard not just for MMA, but for all professional sports."
