POTTS TO TAKE ON LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION

Former heavyweight champion Ruan Potts set to face Tumelo Maphutha in Cape Town

POTTS TO TAKE ON LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION

Cape Town, South Africa – Last week it was announced via Facebook that the former heavyweight champion Ruan ‘Fangzz’ Potts was making the cut to light heavyweight and will be featuring on a fight card soon. For the first time in Potts’ professional MMA career, he will compete in the Hexagon in front of his home town crowd of Cape Town. Welcoming him to the ultra-competitive light heavyweight division is none other than the exceptionally hard hitting Tumelo ‘The Truck’ Maphutha.

Potts was once seen as the baddest man on the African continent, when he was the dominant heavyweight champion. He was the first man to defeat Norman ‘Chef’ Wessels as a heavyweight. Now that Wessels is the reigning light heavyweight champion, all eyes will be on Potts and his evolution as an athlete. Can he repeat history a build towards a contendership in his new division?

Standing in his way for his divisional debut, is a massive test. Considered by many to be the hardest hitter in the organisation, Maphutha is fresh off a win in Cape Town over Belgium’s Marc Vlieger. Prior to losing to Drotschie, he was the number one contender and is now eager to get back to the top of the division and a win over the former heavyweight champion will put him in good stead for his ultimate goal of the light heavyweight gold strap.

This massive bout goes down just before the former light heavyweight champion Gideon Drotchie faces the most recent challenger, Champion Dalcha, and is sure to determine the pecking order at the top of the division.

EFC 45: Kowalkowski vs. Groenewald, presented by BetXchange.com, and takes place at GrandWest, Cape Town, on Saturday 07 November 2015. Tickets available at www.computicket.com.
