South Africa's Gordon Roodman steps in as late replacement against Poland's Rafal Haratyk

06 June 2016

Sun City, South Africa – On Saturday morning it was announced that Michiel Opperman had withdrawn from his fight against Poland’s Rafal ‘The Polish Tank’ Haratyk after suffering a severe knee injury in sparring with teammate and number one welterweight contender Dricus ‘Stillknocks’ du Plessis. In a surprise move, fan favourite Gordon ‘Rage’ Roodman offered himself on two-weeks’ notice to face the Haratyk in a catchweight bout.

When questioned by fans why he opted to step in on late notice, Roodman responded with, “The fans needed someone to not be a little bitch and step up like a hero… Only a fool would do some stupid ass shit like that, or maybe just a man who ain’t no coward. So when they called and said they need a ruthless cowboy… What else could I say other than ‘I know a guy.’”

Originally set to face Angola’s Patrick ‘God of War’ Luindula at EFC 51, Roodman was already in camp and training. He will now face Poland’s Haratyk on the main card and live broadcast at the milestone EFC 50 event in Sun City. Roodman and Haratyk have a common opponent in Keron Davies, both of whom managed to finish in him first round Roodman via KO and Haratyk via submission.

Luindula will not be left without an opponent, as a replacement for Roodman will be announced soon for EFC 51. Meanwhile the highly anticipated fight between ‘Rage’ and ‘God of War’ is expected to still take place at the upcoming EFC 53.

Shortly after the announcement Luindula posted the following on social media: “Guess Gordon needs to add another loss to his record so if I beat him it doesn’t hurt as much.”

All focus now turns to EFC 50: Du Plessis vs van Staden for the welterweight championship, taking place on Friday 17 June at the ultimate destination, Sun City. Tickets are on sale soon at, and the 5 main card bouts will be broadcast live on starting at 20:00 (CAT) and delayed live on after the 20:30 (CAT) movie.
